چکیده

The heat flux on the divertor plate of a fusion reactor is probably one of the most limiting constraints on its lifetime. The current heat flux profile on the outer divertor plate of a device like the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) is highly peaked with narrow profile. The peak heat flux can be as high as 30-40 MW/m 2 with full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the order of a few centimeters. Sweeping the separatrix along the divertor plate is one of the options proposed to reduce the thermomechanical effects of this highly peaked narrow profile. The effectiveness of the sweeping process is investigated parametrically for various design values. The optimum sweeping parameters of a particular heat load will depend on the design of the divertor plate as well as on the profile of such a heat load. In general, moving a highly peaked heat load results in substantial reduction of the thermomechanical effects on the divertor plate.

The design for the BPX power and particle handling system consists of a double-null (DN) poloidal divertor with an inner-wall bumper limiter. In addition, a substantial portion of the remainder of the inside of the torus is covered with graphite tiles to withstand high heat flux. In divertor operating modes, the diverted plasma is “swept” across the divertor plates to reduce the time-average he...

Transport analysis and modelling of high radiation and high density plasmas at ASDEX Upgrade

Future fusion reactors will require high divertor and core radiation by impurity seeding to limit divertor heat loads. In addition, high core densities are required to maximize the fusion power. A well established technique to reduce heat loads on divertor target plates is to insert low and medium Z impurities in the plasma to convert the heat flux into radiation [1]. Radiative cooling by nitro...

Design Optimization of High-performance Helium-cooled Divertor Plate Concept

A helium-cooled plate-type divertor design concept has being proposed within the framework of the ARIES power plant study. W tiles are used as sacrificial armor, W-alloy as main structural material and advanced ODS (oxide dispersion-strengthened) steel as the coolant manifold. An impinging jet cooling scheme is employed to enhance the heat transfer characteristics of the concept in the high hea...

The Evaluation of the Heat Loading from Steady, Transient and Off-normal Conditions in Aries Power Plants*

The heat loading on plasma facing components (PFCs) provides a critical limitation for design and operation of the first wall, divertor, and other special components. Power plants will have high power entering the scrape-off layer and transporting to the first wall and divertor. Although the design for steady heat loads is understood, the approach for transient and off-normal loading is not. Th...
